Based at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, The City of Flagstaff, it is surrounded by one of the largest pine forests on Earth. Flagstaff is approximately 7000 feet above sea level & is also one of the highest elevation cities in the United States - imagine that for a desert state!
Flagstaff was named after a very tall flagpole made from a pine tree to celebrate our nation's centennial in 1876.
